Argentina is one of the safest countries to visit in South America. Buenos Aires is mostly a safe city and local police actively patroll all tourist areas, although, as with any big city you will find instances of crime. Violent crime is extremely rare, and smaller towns in Argentina are tranquil and even safer then the capital, and friendly to travellers. As always, it is good to be aware and to take appropriate precautions when travelling alone or in unknown areas.

  • Stable Economy

After the finicial crisis of 2001/2002, the Argetinian economy has experienced a period of stable growth and expansion. This expansion has resulted in job creation, with unemploment going down from over 21% in 2002 to only 8% in the second quater of 2008. While there have been some fears of economic collapse due to falling commodity prices, the government has taken steps to alleviate this and the situation looks positive. Argentina's population is both highly-skilled and well-educated, it has a rich natural resource base and is able to compete globally in the industrial and agricultural sector.
  • Solid Infrastructure and Modern Conveniences

Transportation Salta - Modern and TraditionalPublic transport is cheap and easily accessible in Buenos Aires, which has an extensive transport system, including subways and buses. The smaller cities and towns in Argentina have more limited transportation resources. Most major cities are connected by passenger railways and there is an extensive commuter rail system in the Buenos Aires metropolitan area. Buenos Aires has two major airports which are the point of arrival and departure for most international flights.

Standards of health care, particularly in the capital, are generally high. Around one third of Argentina's health care fascilities are located in Buenos Aires. Most hospitals have trained personnel, many of whom have studied abroad. In some parts of the country, the hospitals may not have the most up-to-date equipment, but what is available is adequate for an emergency situation. Argentina has public and private hospitals, both of which are available to foreigners. Private hospitals are generally very well equipped. The public hospitals are more basic, but staff are well trained. (see http://www.justlanded.com/english/Argentina/Argentina-Guide/Health/Healt...).
