Mendoza MountainMendoza, a region of mountains and vineyards, is a stunning place to enjoy vistas of snow-capped mountain peaks, while sipping on a glass of local merlot. Mendoza lies at the base of the Andes, close to Santiago, Chile. Mendoza feels like an oasis that seduces travelers who pass through it. Its wide, leafy avenues, trendy cafes, bars, and restaurants, which flow onto the sidewalks at night when the city comes to life, make it a great place to see and be seen. 

It is a clean, well laid-out city, with many parks, tree-lined streets and attractive plazas with fountains. Large sycamore trees provide much needed shade. The feel of the city is somewhat European and nicely relaxed. Althogh the climate in the province is warm and dry, an impressive irrigation system gives Mendoza city the feel of a lush oasis.

It also offers big lakes and panoramic views, as well as exhilirating adventure tourism with snowboarding, skiing, biking, paragliding, horse-riding, fishing, climbing, hiking and rafting in the nearby Andes.  The region of Mendoza is rich in natural wonders and resources, and is an eden for travellers seeking adventure in nature. The famous Cerro Aconcagua, America’s tallest peak, is situated just west of Mendoza near the border of Chile, and draws climbers from al around the world.

Be sure to tour around the many local wineries in the region to taste some of the good stuf and enjoy the gorgeous scenery. Look out for the wine harvest festival, which includes folklore festivals, religious ceremonies to bless the grapes, sports events and much general merriment.  The forested park, Parque San Martin, offers a zoo and amphitheatre where many of the events of Vendimia (the wine harvest festival) take place.

When in Mendoza, do as the locals do - an afternoon siesta will help you to adapt to the hot and humid Summer climes. Regional foods and wines are sure to fire up your taste buds. Mendoza produces some of the best local produce in Argentina including wine, olives, olive oil and mineral water.
